How to Apply in Canada Federal Skilled Trades Program | Express Entry Canada

The Federal Skilled Trades program of Canada is one solution for low educated people, who want to get Canadian permanent residency. This program also runs under the express entry system, similar to the ‘skilled worker’ & ‘Canadian experience class’ programs. Some specific skilled trades are eligible for this program. So, now move to some prominent features, and those are;

1- No Education Requirement

2- ECA not mandatory

3- Low CRS

Importance of Canada’s federal skilled trades program FSTW

As you already know that, this program runs by Express Entry System. It means to apply for the skilled trades program, you will need to create a profile. But first you will have to go through the eligibility criteria.

Also, the Express Entry System typically invites candidates every two weeks. Unlike, we observe it, that they only do specific draws for the trade worker program twice a year.

But, the good thing is, the selection points for FSTW are very low compare to other programs. Therefore, you have a bright chance of success even your CRS is only 350. Now, have a look at approved trade’s detail.

The Program’s approved Trades & Occupations

They structure the eligible skill trades for the FSTW Program under some groups of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC). Such as;

Major NOC Group 72

This group includes industrial, electrical, and construction trades. For example;

Supervisors / Contractors; machining workers, metal forming workers, shaping workers, and other occupations. That means if your NOC starts from 72, you can apply for this program. Besides, if you don’t know what NOC is, you can you can watch this video

Major NOC Group 73

This group comprises maintenance and equipment operation trades.

Major Group 82

This group is for technical workers & supervisors in agriculture, natural resources, and related NOCs.

Major Group 92

It is for the control operators & supervisors in manufacturing, processing, and utilities.

Minor Group 632

Chefs and Cooks NOCs are eligible for this group.

Minor Group 633

This minor group includes butchers and bakers NOCs.

Check eligible occupations & requirements detail on the IRCC Canada website.

What is the eligibility to apply for the Federal Skilled Trades Program in Canada?

Mainly, the eligibility of a candidate asses on the four major factors. Look at the quick brief one by one;

1- Work Experience: The skilled trades program selects candidates only in specific occupations. So, you need to have at least 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years. And it should be into eligible trade.

 2- Language Test: Besides, the work experience, you also need to present a language test report of English or French either. But, the requirement is very low. So, it is only CLB 5.

3- Education: An excellent thing is that formal education is not mandatory for the FSTW program. So, you don’t have to submit any documents of education.

Although, you can earn additional points if you present any diploma or degree. If you have only a high school level, you can receive points.

Therefore, if you have any education, add that to your application. Because it will increase your chances of success.

4- Certificate or Job Offer: This is the most important factor to qualify for the FSTW program. Indeed, you don’t ‘need a job offer from a Canadian employer if you have a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province.

But, in most cases, desiring candidates are from countries other than Canada. So, going to Canada for the trade certification is not possible for them. In short, to apply for the FSTW program either you need a certificate of qualification or a job offer with an LMIA support letter.

Can I apply to Canada PR via the FSTW program, it does not list even my NOC?

Yes, it is possible to enrol in FSTW program they do not list even your exact occupation. But this is tricky to understand how to do it. Let’s solve this riddle.

For example, if you were a mechanical or electrical engineer, but you used to work as a ”mechanic” or a ”technician”. Then, you can choose the eligible trade within your field of work.

In reality, it can be an excellent option for you to find a job offer in trade occupations. Because there is a skill-shortage in Canada. So, don’t think about your status and top position. Just make a move towards your bright future in Canada.

Check your CRS on the Canadian immigration website.

If I am eligible, what is the next step?

Certainly, if you find yourself eligible for the federal skilled trades program of Canada. Then, you will need to create a profile in express entry to enter the selection pool. And it is pretty simple to do that. So, get your all documents ready and submit your profile.
