Liz Sheridan, who played Jerry’s mother on Seinfeld, dies at 93. Sheridan’s manager confirmed that she had died at her home in New York City, just a few days after her 93rd birthday.

Jerry Seinfeld has paid tribute to the “nicest TV mom” Liz Sheridan. She played Seinfeld’s doting mother Helen in the popular comedy.

“Every time she came on our show it was the cosiest feeling for me. Seinfeld wrote on Twitter, sharing a picture of the pair.

“I’ll hug him to say goodbye, and I’ll hug him to say hello,” she said in 1998 in an interview. “I told him I love him like he was my son.

Liz Sheridan was born and raised in New York, before later moving to Los Angeles to work as an actress. Her late husband, Dale Wales, died in 2003.

She appeared on Broadway in plays and musicals during the 1970s including Happy End with Meryl Streep and Ballroom.

She was also known for playing eccentric neighbour Mrs Ochmonek on ALF, and appeared in plays and musicals on Broadway, co-starring with Meryl Streep.

The actor appeared in films including Legal Eagles, Forget Paris and Wedding Bell Blues. The 2010 TV movie The Rooneys was among her final credits.

Sheridan was an author, too, penning the autobiographical "Dizzy & Jimmy" about her relationship with a young, pre-stardom James Dean when the two were aspiring Broadway performers.

In her book Dizzy & Jimmy, Sheridan recounted a romance in the early 1950s with a then-unknown James Dean. Sheridan, nicknamed Dizzy, was a young nightclub dancer.
