Our marriage is “irretrievably broken.” Says the husband of Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and he filed for divorce.

Mr Greene and Marjorie Taylor, 48, had already separated. The couple were married in 1995, while they were both studying at the University of  Georgia.

“Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it,” she said in a statement. “Our society is formed by a family to nurture and protect.

Together, Perry and I formed our family and raised three great kids. He gave me the best job title you can ever earn.

As we go on different paths we will continue to focus on our 3 incredible kids and their future endeavours and our friendship."

Mr. Greene’s divorce papers do not explicitly mention a prenuptial agreement, laying out what happens next for the couple’s income and debts.

Mr. Greene asks the court for “a fair and equitable division of the marital assets” and also, “equitably divided” marital debts.

This is a private and personal matter and I ask that the media respect our privacy at this time,” Rep. Greene said in a statement.
